✍️ Don’t Call It an Army If You’re Handing Out Scripts
Companies love saying they’re building a mission-driven team.
An elite force. Builders. Fighters. “We’re in this together.”
Cool. I’m in.
But then I show up—and it turns out I wasn’t hired for the army.
I was hired for the drama department.
My job? Read the script. Say the right lines. Clap at the town hall.
Just say that up front.
Same goes for the whole “we’re a family” thing.
If my relationship with you is at-will and ends with 2 weeks’ notice—
We’re not family.
We’re a business.
And that’s fine. Just say it plainly.
You want to lead? Great.
Then practice what you preach.
Otherwise, don’t call it leadership.
Call it optics management.
